Goradia Innovation Prize Applications Open: Houston area emerging technologies to win $150,000
If you have a promising new technology and are located in the Greater Houston area, you could win up to $50,000 in non-dilutive funding.
Our region is brimming with bright ideas and new technologies that could drastically change their respective industries. Due to the generous gift of The Vijay and Marie Goradia Charitable Foundation and Opportunity Houston in partnership with the Houston Technology Center, local technology early-stage companies have the opportunity to compete to win a combined $150,000 through the Goradia Innovation Prize.
The prize launched in 2010 has already distributed over $500,000 to Houston disruptive technologies. The funding opportunity recognizes the best innovations from the Houston Gulf Coast Region and encourages bringing those innovations to the marketplace, and the opportunity to commercialize many of these technologies could never reach the market without initial funding. Recognizing the benefits of these innovations and urgent need to reach customers and patients, the Goradia Innovation Prize was developed.
Over the last four years, numerous Goradia prize winners have gained traction and success. The 2010 Goradia Innovatin Grand Prize Winner, Rebellion Photonics, was named the Wall Street Journal Startup of the year in 2013. Procyrion, the 2012 Grand Prize Winner, has received $1.5 million in funding from the Texas Emerging Technology Fund and was recognized as “Top Life Science Company” at the 2014 Texas Life Science Forum.
The applications are now open and are due by noon on July 1, 2014. The selection of the awardees is based upon the commercial potential of the innovation, the soundness of the business plan, the potential for job growth within the region and the likelihood of significant long-term success.
