Gimmal Group announces its support of HTC and the Texas Emerging Technology Fund''s Gulf Coast Regional Center of Innovation and Commercialization

Gimmal Group, a Houston-based information technology consulting company, is pleased to announce its contribution of services to the Houston Technology Center (HTC), in support of the Texas Emerging Technology Fund’s Gulf Coast Regional Center of Innovation (GCRCIC). Upon receiving a generous software donation from Microsoft, the Houston Technology Center (HTC) needed assistance in implementing Microsoft’s SharePoint Portal Server 2003 software.  Anticipating this need, the Gimmal Group offered to support the deployment of SharePoint to enable both the HTC and the GCRCIC to meet their objectives.

Gimmal Group became an HTC client company in 2003 and remains an active supporter of the organization. “We have supported the HTC for many years both as a Client Company and as Technology Champions.” said Mike Alsup, Gimmal Group’s President.  “Additionally, we have deep experience with Microsoft SharePoint and wanted to give something back to the HTC Community.  This was our opportunity.”

The HTC is the Gulf Coast Regional Center of Innovation and Commercialization for the Texas Emerging Technology Fund, collaborating with Greater Houston Partnership, Economic Development Organizations, and universities throughout its 32 county region. The GCRCIC is receiving applications from individuals and companies, researching each application and submitting recommendations to the Texas Emerging Technology Committee in Austin, TX. The Committee reviews the RCIC approved business plans and submits its recommendations to the Governor, Lt. Governor and Speaker who determine quarterly which projects will then receive commercialization grants to further their proposed business project.

The Texas Emerging Technology Fund was created in 2005 with the passing of House Bill 1765. The fund of $200 million focuses on fostering innovation, research and job creation in emerging high-tech industries.

SharePoint was configured by Gimmal Group to enable applicants to submit electronically their business plans and supporting documentation to the GCRCIC.  Once the content is submitted, the GCRCIC Screening Committees members are able to collaborate on the content, assess the submissions, and qualify the companies for each step of evaluation.  SharePoint is an intuitive and easy to use system that was rapidly adopted by the GCRCIC.

“The Houston Technology Center greatly appreciates the support and assistance Gimmal Group is providing. The implementation of SharePoint allows the GCRCIC to work more efficiently and produce results faster. The convenience of full remote access to shared documents improves our work process”, said Aruna Viswanathan, HTC’s Vice President and Director of Operations who serves as Project Manager for the GCRCIC. “Increased efficiency in HTC’s internal processes resulting from the implementation of SharePoint, will help the organization also in the long run”, she added.
