Rice Entrepreneurship & Mentoring Series - Session 1 Entrepreneurship Basics

Announcing a new 8-part entrepreneurship educational course from the Rice Alliance and Rice Executive Education, sponsored by the HTC.

Thursday afternoons from 3-5 pm
June 9, 2005 - August 4, 2005

In this 8-part course, you will learn, in depth, the key steps required a launch a new technology company.  You will also have the opportunity to receive 1-on-1 mentoring from experienced entrepreneurs and investors from the
Houston community.

Attendance in this course will be limited to maximize the class interaction and educational experience.   So if you are serious about successfully building a technology start-up company, we encourage you to register online before May 27. www.alliance.rice.edu.

Who should attend?

  • Scientists, engineers, researchers, faculty, physicians, and healthcare professionals who want to obtain the tools necessary to commercialize their technology and launch a new business.
  • Graduate students, post-docs, and undergraduates in science, engineering and life sciences.
  • Technology entrepreneurs who want to start a new business or have already founded a company and want to ensure its success.

    Participants will learn:

    • How to decide if there is a market opportunity for a new technology  
    • How to license and protect intellectual property  
    • How to obtain funding for a technology venture  
    • When to seek venture capital funding vs. other alternatives  
    • How to set up and structure a corporation  
    • How to develop a successful sales & marketing program  
    • How to communicate the technology story effectively to different audiences
