MITEF - Big Data

In 2012, Nate Silver used statistics to perfectly predict the results of the presidential election, Brad Pitt starred in a movie on how data has transformed baseball, and the cover of the Harvard Business Review heralded the arrival of “the age of BIG DATA”. With the cost of data storage now immaterial, sensor technology becoming ubiquitous, and modern machine learning techniques able to pull signals out large and complex data sets, we’re fast approaching a world where data and algorithms make many of our most important business decisions. Our February 19 event will offer a primer on big data and machine learning and thoughts on its potential in upstream Oil & Gas.

Anthony Goldbloom, founder & CEO of Kaggle will give some background on analytics and machine learning, with examples of what these technologies are capable of and how they have been used in industry.

Ken Tubman, Vice President, Geosciences and Reservoir Engineering at ConocoPhillips will then moderate a panel of experts, which will discuss how BIG DATA  and machine learning can impact upstream Oil & Gas.
