HOUSTON IN TOP 5 METRO AREAS TO LAUNCH A NEW BUSINESS

Fortune Small Business Rates Houston Among Top Cities in the Nation

(HOUSTON) October 12, 2009 – The Houston Technology Center (HTC), a business accelerator that assists Houston-based emerging technology companies, is pleased to share that Fortune Small Business rates Houston as a great city to launch a new business. Innovative healthcare, energy and technology sectors continue to create jobs and economic development for this top city.

Houston continues to thrive despite the status of the current global economic market. HTC works hard with its community partners to enable and accelerate new businesses serving its neighbors in Texas.

“This well deserved accolade for our community reflects the great progress made in the ten years that the Houston Technology Center has been fostering entrepreneurship,” said Walter Ulrich, president & CEO, Houston Technology Center.  “This is a true testament to the work being done by the HTC and its partner organizations: The Greater Houston Partnership, Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship, BioHouston and the MIT Enterprise Forum of Texas. This also speaks to the terrific advances that are coming out of the regions Universities and Research Institutions.”

Ulrich goes on to say, “the spirit of the wildcatter lives, only now we are wildcatting in new technologies and breakthrough advances in healthcare, energy and more.”

This ranking follows several other prestigious rankings. Forbes.com has rated Houston among Top Ten Up-and-Coming Tech Cities and number one for the Best Cities to Buy a Home and in both credited the Houston Technology Center’s key role in those rankings.
