Houston, TX - March 30, 2016 - The Houston Technology Center announced today it will honor Dr. Bud Frazier at the 2016 Celebration of Entrepreneurs Gala. Held annually, this magical evening event will honor local entrepreneurs and celebrate those who have made significant contributions to the Houston community. The event will be held on May 12, 2016 at the Hyatt RegencyHouston

For more than 30 years, Dr. Frazier has been a pioneer in the treatment of severe heart failure and in the fields of heart transplantation and artificial devices that may be used either to substitute for or to assist the pumping action of the human heart. As a result of his work, the Texas Heart Institute (THI), where he directs the Center for Cardiac Support, has become one of the top transplantation and mechanical circulatory support programs in the world.

Dr. Frazier has performed over 1,300 heart transplants and implanted more than 1,000 left ventricular assist devices, more than any other surgeon in the world. In addition to his clinical and research contributions, he has authored or coauthored more than 1200 scientific publications and presented over 800 lectures around the world. For his work, Dr. Frazier has received numerous honors, including the Living Legend Award from the World Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons.

Dr. Frazier, now a tenured Baylor professor, earned his medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine. He completed specialty training in general surgery at Baylor under Dr. Michael DeBakey and his residency in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery under Dr. Denton Cooley at THI.

President and CEO Walter Ulrich of the Houston Technology Center congratulates and honors Dr. Frazier as a true entrepreneur, leader and humanitarian. “Surgeon, inventor and teacher only begin to describe this incredible human  being whose surgeries have extended the lives of many hundreds, whose inventions will enhance the lives of millions, and whose many acolytes will extend and enhance the lives of many more. His work, like the source of a great river, will flow for generations to come.”
